Who am I?

My name is Ricky Sikes and I am a practicing artist and educator based in Little Rock Arkansas. Currently, I am an instructor at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 2018 I earned my Masters of Fine Art degree in Studio Art from Louisiana Tech University’s School of Design. In 2010 I received my Bachelors of Fine Art degree specializing in illustration at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

What I do.

These days I work in all sorts of media. Mostly some sort of painting. In my work, I explore many genres including portraiture, figure painting and illustration. In my most recent series of landscapes titled, Internal Landscapes, I explore the eerie, peaceful, chaotic and sometimes intimidating nature of the dense forests of my home region in the southern U.S. and other places.

I also am developing a body of work titled “Internal Dialogue” where I explore human existence as a multi layered entity. More to come on that soon.

Plein-air painting is also a passion of mine. Whenever the weather permits, and sometimes not, you can find me out in natural areas taking in scenery with my omni present painting box I made from an old wine crate.
